How will those human-chomping dinosaurs in “Jurassic Park” go over with the hamburger-chomping families who eat at McDonald’s?

The fast-food giant has arranged a promotional tie-in with the Steven Spielberg movie. But the movie is rated PG-13, meaning that parents are strongly cautioned that some of the material may be inappropriate for children under that age. And the early word from a few insiders who have seen the film is that it does, indeed, deliver the bloody goods thanks to the vicious, realistic-looking dinosaurs.

Last year, McDonald’s Corp. had a slightly bruising experience with another PG-13 movie, “Batman Returns.” The company offered specials and plastic cups of the Batman character, designed to appeal to kids. But when the movie came out, the violent storyline alarmed many parents who then criticized the fast-food giant for contributing to “Batman Returns’ ” appeal to children.

This time, McDonald’s spokeswoman Ann Connolly said the tie-in to “Jurassic Park” is aimed at “the audience for the movie . . . adults and young adults.”

“We did listen to some specific concerns from our customers,” she said, when asked if the reason for the shift was the result of last summer’s criticism.

This year’s promotion features “DinoSized” meals, she said. “They’re bigger portions--for adults.”
