New York Cable Operator Announces Business Service: Cablevision Systems Corp. said it plans to become the first major cable operator in the nation to offer a TV channel dedicated to allowing businesses to send data to each other using computer networks. The system will permit doctors to send X-ray images to hospitals, business offices to transmit spreadsheets or other large documents, schools and libraries to form data links, and executives to hold teleconferences, officials of the Long Island-based company said. The service will be available on Long Island, in New York City and in the company’s other cable networks across the country.
