LOS ANGELES COUNTY : 2 More Ex-Deputies Guilty of Drug Money Skimming

A husband and wife Monday became the 17th and 18th former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies convicted in a widespread drug money skimming scandal when both pleaded guilty on the opening day of their federal corruption trial.

Terrell and Genevieve Amers admitted involvement in the stealing of thousands of dollars seized in drug raids. Sentencing was set for Aug. 4.

Terrell Amers, who served 23 years with the Sheriff’s Department, is already serving a four-year sentence in federal prison on earlier skimming charges. He pleaded guilty Monday to additional charges of conspiracy, theft, money laundering and structuring financial transactions and could receive as long as another 225 years and up to $6 million in fines.

Genevieve Amers could get up to 10 years and $500,000 in fines.
