A summary of selected City Hall actions affecting Central Los Angeles in the past week. : CITY COUNCIL

* STREET RENAMING: Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas proposed that Brighton Avenue between Adams and Jefferson Boulevards be renamed Stennis Avenue in honor of businessman Bill Stennis, who died in May. Stennis was the founder of the Golden Bird restaurant chain.

* JUNETEENTH: Approved the temporary closure of the alley adjacent to West View Street at Adams Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday for the annual Juneteenth Festival sponsored by the Friends of the William Grant Still Community Arts Center. City permit fees of $1,358 will be waived.

* BLACK CAUCUS: Ridley-Thomas has requested that the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Regional Public Policy Conference in Los Angeles June 25-27 be declared a special event. He is also asking that “city departments be directed to cooperate, to the extent feasible, toward the successful execution of the conference.” The conference is to examine strategies and solutions for issues facing African-Americans.

* INNER-CITY GAMES: Approved the closure of streets in the Boyle Heights area that comprise the route of the Hollenbeck Inner-City Games and Munchkin Run from 6 a.m. to noon on Aug. 22. Proceeds from the 5-K run and 1-mile Munchkin run will go to the Hollenbeck Youth Center’s juvenile delinquency prevention and literacy program. Arnold Schwarzenegger is the event’s executive commissioner.

* FOURTH OF JULY PARADE: Approved the closure of Main Street between 2nd and 6th streets from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Independence Day Parade, which is sponsored by the Union Rescue Mission.

How South-Central and Eastside representatives voted on selected issues.

* REWARD: Approved a proposal offering $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the killings of three men in the last four months in Harbor City. A fourth man who was shot in the separate drive-by shootings survived. Passed: 10-0. Voting yes: Richard Alatorre, Mike Hernandez, Nate Holden, Ridley-Thomas and Rita Walters. Absent: Joan Milke Flores.

* LEAD POISONING: Approved the city’s participation in the county’s Lead Poisoning Prevention and Abatement Task Force. The city will also request the county create an advisory committee to the task force that would be composed of tenants, property owners, contractors and other representatives. Passed: 13-0. Voting yes: Alatorre, Flores, Hernandez, Holden, Ridley-Thomas and Walters.
