SPECIAL EVENT : Celebrating the Unveiling of an Arena in Anaheim

Share

The public is invited to take its first peek at the Anaheim Arena on Friday, as the new 19,400-seat sports and entertainment venue has an open house the day before it makes its full-blown debut with a concert by Barry Manilow.

KLOS-FM morning disc jockeys Mark and Brian will broadcast live from the arena’s south parking lot from 6 to 10 a.m. Guests will be allowed to tour the building from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. A ribbon-cutting with arena and city officials will be held today at 1 p.m.

At Friday’s open house, clowns from the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus will be on hand, in addition to representatives from the Arena’s two hockey franchises, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Anaheim Bullfrogs (a roller hockey team).

The Mighty Ducks will not debut in the Arena until September, but other events scheduled for the months ahead include symphonic music, figure-skating, basketball, wrestling and country music. Tickets for all events except a July 31 concert by country stars Clint Black and Wynonna Judd will be on sale at the box office during the open house.

Opulent for a modern sports venue, the marble-tiled Anaheim Arena was begun in 1990. The project came in at $121 million, including land, construction costs, franchise fees and other expenses.
