Playa del Rey : Developer Seeks Go-Ahead
After years of environmental and design studies, the developer of the Playa Vista project next week moves one step closer to gaining city approval for the first phase of the vast development.
An advisory agency to the City of Los Angeles will have a public hearing Wednesday in Westchester to consider whether to certify as adequate a final environmental impact report on the first stage of Playa Vista. The agency will also consider a request for subdivision approval.
Developer Maguire Thomas Partners wants to build 3,246 residential units, 1.25 million square feet of office space, 300 hotel rooms, and 35,000 square feet of neighborhood retail space on 280 acres of open land between Marina del Rey and the Westchester Bluffs.
The beginning phase of the development represents about one-quarter of the entire Playa Vista project.
The hearing is the first in a long approval process that will probably extend to the city Planning Commission and the City Council. The session will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Loyola Marymount University’s St. Roberts Auditorium, 7101 W. 80th St., in Westchester.
Before the hearing, the city Planning Department will conduct a public meeting tonight to answer questions and provide information on how to prepare testimony. The session will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Airport Marina Hotel, 8601 Lincoln Blvd., in Westchester.
