CALABASAS : City’s Dial-a-Ride Program to Expand

Share

In an effort to promote volunteerism among teen-agers and stop drunk driving, the Calabasas City Council this week expanded the Dial-a-Ride program to include young members of city volunteer programs and people who feel that they have had too much to drink.

At its Wednesday night meeting, the council also directed city staff to expand the program, which since September has served Calabasas residents older than 55 and the disabled, to various sites outside the city, possibly including the Agoura Community Center, the Metrolink station in Chatsworth and shopping areas.

The service will also be available to teen-agers or others who are reluctant to drive home late at night, and might include rides to their cars the next day. The cost to the city, which spends about $2,000 a month on the program, is expected to increase by only about $2,500 a year as a result of the expansion, Johnson said.
