OAK PARK : School Throws Party for 1,200 for Its Award

Share

Nearly 1,200 people turned out this week to help Oak Hills Elementary School celebrate its national Blue Ribbon Award.

Principal Anthony Knight, one of five school officials who attended a White House ceremony in May to accept the award, sought local businesses to sponsor the $5,000 party held at the Oak Park school Thursday in honor of the students.

“All of them own part of that award,” said Knight.

Oak Hills was one of 288 Blue Ribbon schools chosen by the Department of Education for excelling in curriculum, school environment and history and math programs.

Thursday’s program featured various student and teacher awards and a picnic. The Blue Ribbon flag was hoisted with the American flag during the ceremony.
