Two people were killed in shootings early Saturday that police believe were gang-related.

Fernando Dominguez, 19, of Orange was standing with friends about 1 a.m. in a parking lot between the Carl’s Jr. and El Pollo Loco restaurants in the 2500 block of South Bristol Street when some males got out of a car and confronted him about gang membership, said Police Sgt. Roger Scharf.

A fight broke out, Scharf said, and “sometime during the fight, one of the males yelled into the car to ‘get the gun,’ and four to five shots were fired,” Scharf said.

Dominguez was hit three times and died at the scene, police said.

Police said the parking lot is a popular gathering spot among “cruisers.”

Authorities said the fatal attack appeared to be unrelated to a drive-by shooting about half an hour later in the 900 block of South Minnie Street, claiming the life of a teen-ager.

The youth, who lived in the area, had been shot several times, Scharf said.

Police didn’t release the youth’s name pending notification of relatives.

Scharf said it appeared the victim was shot with a handgun.

No arrests have been made in connection with either shooting, police said, and investigations are continuing.
