Sun Expected for First Day of Summer

A weather pattern that brought brief thundershowers and gray clouds to Ventura County over the weekend should retreat today, bringing warm, partly sunny skies for the first day of summer, forecasters said.

The unseasonable showers that sprinkled just a trace of rain throughout the county were “an anomalous feature in the overall weather pattern,” said James McCutcheon, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which makes forecasts for The Times.

A fast-moving front traveling through Southern California brought the rain to Ventura before it moved into Arizona, McCutcheon said.

“It wasn’t a real strong front but it was enough to bring the storms,” McCutcheon said.

Today, the county should experience more typical weather, with morning clouds and fog clearing by the afternoon, McCutcheon said.

Temperatures will range from the mid-70s along the coast to the low-90s inland.
