Taft High School’s academic decathletes, who took second place in this year’s national competition, will meet President Clinton during a Rose Garden ceremony Thursday, organizers announced Monday.

The Woodland Hills high school team, which was narrowly edged out of first place by the team from Plano East Senior High School in Texas, will join the gold and bronze medal winners during the event, said Ann Joynt, executive director of the United States Academic Decathlon. Students honored for individual achievement will also be on hand, Joynt said.

The decathlon, held this year in Phoenix, tests students in math, science, social science, language and literature, economics and fine arts, as well as skills in essay-writing and speech.
