SIMI VALLEY : Trailer Loaded With Merchandise Stolen

Share

Police are searching for suspects in the theft of a trailer filled with $170,000 worth of goods from a Mervyn’s department store in Simi Valley.

The trailer was recovered in Gardena on Wednesday afternoon, but there was no sign of the clothing, shoes and housewares that had been inside, police said.

Simi Valley Police Lt. Mark Layhew said the 40-foot trailer was taken from the Mervyn’s at 2807 Cochran St. between 7 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday. Police have no suspects.

Layhew said police do not think that the theft was related to three earlier tractor-trailer heists from CF Motorfreight in Simi Valley. In the latest, armed robbers hijacked a truck June 4 at Madera Road and the Simi Valley Freeway. Six people were arrested in connection with the theft, but none are suspected of committing the hijacking.

In the hijacking, a total of 1,196 cartons of Bugle Boy jeans were stolen, of which 1,002 cartons were recovered June 8 at a storage warehouse in West Los Angeles, Layhew said.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dwayne Shackleford said tractor-trailer thefts have become increasingly common in eastern Ventura County.

In Los Angeles County, an average of five to 10 tractor-trailers are stolen each night, authorities said.
