Victory, Robert Butkus’ Dubois 40 from the Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club, and I’ll Go, Don Preston’s Chaser 29 from Pacific Mariners YC, each won three of four races on corrected time to win their handicap classes in the ninth Trimble Navigation/North Sails Race Week at Long Beach, concluding Sunday.

Some of the tightest racing was in the three one-design classes for J/35s, Schock 35s and J/24s.

Carolyn Hardy’s Mischief, steered by Mark Reardon, won the 23-boat Schock 35 class and its second Pacific Coast championship with 15.75 points, over Richard Dorfman’s Main Squeeze, 16.75.

Short Term Solution, Rod Park’s new J/35 from Richmond YC, won. Larry Harvey’s Abba-Zaba-Jab of Alamitos Bay YC salvaged fourth overall by winning the last race after being disqualified for a premature start on Saturday. Otherwise, “Abba-Zaba-Jab was way faster and would have won,” said Short Term Solution crewman Jay Crum. Craig Leweck of Mission Bay YC borrowed his father Tom’s J/24 Free Lunch to post a 3-1-1-2 series in that 18-boat division.
