Business Tips: Need advice on starting a business or improving upon one you already own? Sit down and have a heart-to-heart with a computer.

Cal State Fullerton offers a new “interactive multimedia” course titled “How to Start and Run a Small Business,” in which students communicate with a computer using software developed by a Maryland-based company, Mitec.

The computer program guides participants through a list of questions regarding such subjects as business goals and sources of financing. It helps students create or enhance their business plan and test it against a computer simulation of the first year of operation. A video screen displays various experts, including bankers and insurance agents, who provide counsel based on a student’s specific responses. Lab assistants are available to help students with the computer technology.

The cost of the course, which takes eight to 12 hours, is $225. For more information, call Gail Reisman, director of the media learning center, at (714) 449-7269.
