‘Street Smart’ Shows Lack of Common Sense

Share

* It’s not that I don’t trust reporters whose self-serving indignation takes precedence over sanity or the common good of a million or so readers, but reflect for a moment on Hugo Martin’s comment in--pardon my gasp--”Street Smart “ that honking and making “rude gestures” at road-hogging motorists “doesn’t stop them but it makes me feel better” (June 21).

I called the Glendale office of the California Highway Patrol and read Martin’s words in context. The spokesman groaned in disgust and apparent disbelief, and agreed that such “feel good” responses might easily motivate your fellow motorist to come after you and your vehicle with something considerably more deadly in hand than a rude gesture or a horn.

Considering what could become of those who read and follow your advice, this inquiring mind suggests you rename your feature “Road Kill.”

This has been my first and last reading of it, thank you.
