VENTURA : Wallet Leads to Arrest in Robbery

Share

Ventura police used a wallet found at the scene of an armed robbery Saturday to track the holdup suspect to his Santa Monica apartment Saturday, authorities said.

A man entered the House of Spirits liquor store with an automatic handgun about 12:40 a.m. Saturday, police said. He told the store clerk to lie down behind the counter, then bound his hands and eyes with duct tape, they said.

Store owner Jim Bayse said the man took about $300 from the register. No one was injured.

Upon searching the store, police said they discovered what they believed to be the suspect’s wallet behind the counter.

“It belonged to none of us and it wasn’t there before,” said Bayse, who has owned the store for 18 years. “And it was behind the counter where the customers couldn’t put it.”

Police arrested Rollin David Gilman III on Saturday morning in Santa Monica. He was jailed in Ventura County Jail on suspicion of robbery on $20,000 bond.
