GLENDALE : Mayor Expects Closer Ties to Los Angeles

Share

Glendale officials expect closer relations with Los Angeles now that Richard Riordan, a pro-business Republican like Glendale’s mayor, is in office.

“I think we will have much better cooperation because I think that Mr. Riordan brings an attitude much like mine--free enterprise, law and order,” Mayor Larry Zarian said. “We know each other, and that’s a plus.

“I had a tough time getting (former) Mayor (Tom) Bradley to respond to many of my calls.”

One of those calls concerned gang violence. Zarian believes that Riordan would be more willing to involve other cities in the fight against such criminal activities.

He also thinks that Riordan will take a more positive view of Los Angeles, which in turn attracts visitors and businesses to all of Los Angeles County.

“We are going to depend on him to be able to sell Los Angeles again to the world . . . so he can say L. A. is a safe place,” Zarian said. “If he does that, people will come to Southern California.”
