A man is being held on $1-million bail after being charged Tuesday with raping two North Hollywood women in adjacent apartments on two consecutive evenings.

Although prosecutors could not identify the man because he refused to cooperate with police, Municipal Court Commissioner Nori Ann Walla said the suspect was 26-year-old Alex John Miller, according to a court clerk.

Miller pleaded not guilty to 20 felony counts, including forcible rape and forced oral copulation.

The first attack occurred during the early morning of June 30 when Miller allegedly broke into a 43-year-old woman’s apartment in the 5300 block of Colfax Avenue through her kitchen door and sexually assaulted her, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Talis S. Haight, who said the assault occurred in several locations in the residence.

The next night, the first victim and her boyfriend called police after hearing screams from the apartment next door, authorities said. A naked Miller was taken into custody as he exited the apartment after police surrounded the building, Haight said.

The second victim, 29, reported being sexually assaulted at knifepoint, police said.

The keys to the apartment in the first attack were found in Miller’s pants outside the residence of the second victim, according to Haight.

Walla scheduled a preliminary hearing in the case for July 15.
