Montebello : School Roof Repairs to Begin Next Week

Roof repairs are scheduled to begin next week at seven schools in Montebello and Bell Gardens.
The Montebello Unified School District board voted unanimously last week to award a $222,779 contract for the repairs to Thompson Roof Co. of Long Beach.
Repairs should be complete by Sept. 3, Thompson business manager Glenn J. Sheppard said.
The contract involves patching or replacing leaking roofs at Montebello Park elementary, Wilcox elementary, Bell Gardens Intermediate, Eastmont Intermediate, Suva Intermediate, Montebello High and Schurr High schools, Sheppard said.
Budget cuts have prevented the district from making major roof repairs for three years, school officials said, and rain leaked in during storms last winter, damaging air conditioners and ceiling tiles.
Officials have submitted an application to the state Office of Emergency Services requesting about $50,000 to repair the storm damage.
