The Police Department will set up a sobriety checkpoint beginning Friday night at the northbound lanes of Beach Boulevard, south of Blaylock Drive.
Officers will use the checkpoint to increase public awareness to problems caused by driving under the influence and to remove as many drinking or drugged drivers from the roadway in as short a time as possible, Sgt. Tris Swan said.
The checkpoint will operate from 9 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday. Members of the traffic bureau, accident suppression team and scientific investigation unit will participate.
