Indications are that Mike Piazza will be selected for the National League All-Star team by Atlanta Manager Bobby Cox, providing that National League President Bill White approves Cox’s choice.
Piazza finished third among catchers in fan balloting with 644,823 votes. Darren Daulton of the Philadelphia Phillies is the starter with 2,061,255 votes, followed by Benito Santiago of Florida with 1,227,232.
The last Dodger rookie to make an All-Star team was Steve Sax in 1982. The last rookie catcher named to the team was Gary Carter in 1975.
