It was not a great way to celebrate his 22nd birthday, concluded Cona Lewis Billyzone of Lancaster.

Attempting to elude his date’s ex-boyfriend Thursday, Billyzone drove his car through a chain-link fence at the Lancaster sheriff’s station and hit two patrol cars, authorities said.

There were no injuries.

Billyzone told sheriff’s deputies that he was driving with a woman he was dating in his 1984 Camaro at about 1 a.m. when the woman’s ex-boyfriend began following them in his car.

According to the woman, her ex-boyfriend had a knife, Deputy Jody Sharp said.

After a high-speed chase, Billyzone told deputies that he tried to turn into the Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Station grounds to get away, but was unaware that the fence surrounding the station had been closed for the night.

When he saw the chain-link fence, Billyzone sped up and plowed into it, carrying a 30-foot section of the fence along with his car.

Before he was able to stop, the car hit two patrol cars parked at the station, causing minor rear-end damage to both vehicles, Sharp said.

Billyzone was cited and released but faces vandalism charges, Sharp said.

Deputies are checking on the ex-boyfriend, who was nowhere to be found when they arrived to investigate the crash, Sharp said.

On Thursday afternoon, an embarrassed Billyzone was trying to forget the strange chain of events that happened to occur on his 22nd birthday.

“I’m just embarrassed,” he said. “Real embarrassed.”
