Suit Charges Santa Ana Teacher in Gold Scam

Seven people who claim they were bilked of $182,000 in a phony gold recovery and refining scam filed suit Thursday against Stanley Gordon, a jewelry-making teacher for the Santa Ana school district for 22 years.

The suit names Gordon, 55, and his wife, Nancy Marie Gordon, and their son Sean as an accessory. It charges that, between August, 1992, and March, 1993, Gordon promised investors up to 50% in returns. It was an investment, members of the group allegedly were told, that could not lose.

Neither Gordon nor his attorney could be reached for comment Thursday.

Although Stanley Gordon was sought by police as a missing person after the charges against him surfaced, no criminal charges were ever filed against the Gordons, who live in Newport Beach.

“I’m hoping the district attorney’s office will take more of an interest in prosecuting this case,” said John F. Oakes, the group lawyer.

Oakes said his clients were “a little concerned that it’s going be dropped, that nothing is going to be done.”

The plaintiffs are Al and Myrna Cosman, Floyd Young, Michael J. Lapore, Victor Cook, Paula Allen and Kathleen Incardona.
