LAKEFRONT PROPERTY: Rock concerts are expected to continue at the Castaic Lake Recreation Area, despite injuries suffered by about a dozen people last weekend either by slam dancing or being burned by illegal fireworks at the “Bar-B-Q Mitzvah” concert featuring the Butthole Surfers and Stone Temple Pilots.

“We’re interested in doing more shows and don’t anticipate any problems,” says Brian Roney, the assistant superintendent of the Los Angeles County-owned park.

The three broken legs and three broken arms resulting from the aggressive slam dancing were “more than we expected,” Roney says, but he adds that the burns would have been expected on the Independence Day weekend even without a concert. Investigation of a reported attempted sexual assault was dropped after the woman who had been grabbed and beaten refused to press charges against her attacker after she was treated for cuts and bruises.

A spokesman for Goldenvoice, the Los Angeles concert promotion firm that produced this show as well as two previous Castaic concerts, said that plans are being made to use the site more in the future as an alternative to the indoor venues commonly used for such alternative bands.
