Share

The new Civic Center will open at 7800 Katella Ave. on July 26, the city has announced.

The $5-million center includes both City Hall and recreation and leisure services facilities.

Service at the current City Hall, at 10660 Western Ave., will cease at the end of the day on July 21. The building will be closed on July 22 as workers move to the new site.

Office hours at the new City Hall will be 7 a.m. to noon and 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The Recreation Department will be open from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The Civic Center will be closed on Fridays.

The new telephone number for the Civic Center is (714) 379-9222. There is also a voice mail system for people to request a building inspection, report graffiti or get city information. That number is (714) 379-3252.

The information line will describe city-sponsored events and give the city’s hours of operation.

The center has been a focus of controversy, with some City Council members saying the $5 million could be better spent in support of local businesses. Councilman Sal Sapien was even the target of a 1991 recall effort because of his strong support for the project.
