SAN FERNANDO : Business Training Program Kicks Off

Share

An orientation session will be held today by Los Angeles Mission College to kick off the second year of an entrepreneurial training program aimed at low-income residents who own existing businesses or want to start new ones.

The 20-week program at the college’s business and professional center will teach participants the nuts and bolts of running a business, including how to develop a business plan and establish credit.

“This is a way to take a course and get started in a business without having to get a degree,” said Ralph Kacy, a research coordinator for the business center.

The program includes classroom instruction, which will be held evenings Monday through Thursday, and lab work on computers. Some of the participants in last year’s training program have started businesses in retail clothing, computer sales and child care, Kacy said.

Kacy said room is available for residents in the northeast San Fernando Valley who are interested in signing up for the course, which is free of charge.

The business center is located off campus at 1300 San Fernando Road in San Fernando. The orientation session will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and the first class will begin Wednesday. For more information, call (818) 837-2237.
