FULLERTON : Former Mayor Calls Anti-Gang Meeting

Share

Former Mayor Frances Wood has organized a public meeting Wednesday at police headquarters to discuss the gang situation in Fullerton and the success of an ongoing gang-intervention program.

Police Sgt. Joe Klein will explain the Community United for Fullerton Safety program, which began last fall with state funding. The program joins the Police Department and city with schools and numerous county agencies to work against gang activity.

The program, known as CUFFS for short, brought theater groups to schools, sponsored discussion groups and provided on-site counseling and referral at Nicolas Junior High School, Fullerton High School and La Vista Continuation High School. One major goal is to provide healthy alternatives to gang activity, CUFFS officials have said.

Representatives from the district attorney’s office and the county Probation Department will also be at the meeting, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the mural room of the Police Department, at 237 W. Commonwealth Ave.
