Norwalk : City Will Stop Transporting Workers in Beds of Trucks
- Share via
The council directed city officials last week to stop transporting community service workers to job sites in the back of pickups.
Councilman Robert J. Arthur said he has been concerned for the safety of the youths since seven teen-agers died in an accident on the Long Beach Freeway. The youths were riding in the bed of a pickup when it plunged off the freeway recently.
City officials said 10 to 20 teen-agers work on weekends removing graffiti, washing city vehicles and cleaning parks and alleys to meet parole obligations or as restitution for graffiti or vandalism convictions.
