A woman jogging along a residential street early Wednesday warded off a would-be rapist, authorities said.

The 22-year-old woman received minor cuts and bruises during the attack, Sheriff’s Lt. Dick Olson said.

The woman was jogging along Street of the Blue Lantern near Pacific Coast Highway shortly after midnight Wednesday when she was tackled from behind and knocked to the ground, Olson said.

As the man got on top of her, the woman began to struggle and scream. The attacker struck her in the face and head with his fist, but the woman managed to bite his finger.

The man then fled.

Olson said the attacker was described as in his 20s, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He had short black hair and wore a white T-shirt.
