LOCAL NOTES : Magic to Play Game at UC Irvine

Magic Johnson will return to the basketball court Monday when he plays against the Lakers in the ASICS Summer Pro Basketball League at UC Irvine’s Bren Center at 7:30 p.m.

Johnson, who played in the league before his rookie season in 1979, is part of team made up of current and former NBA players, including Kurt Rambis.

Doug Christie, Duane Cooper and rookie Nick Van Exel are current Lakers on the roster.

Reserved tickets, which went on sale Wednesday afternoon, are $16 and $6 and good for all four of Monday’s summer league games starting at 12:30 p.m. Call (714) 856-5000 for information.

John German said he has been hired as the baseball coach at La Habra High School.

German was the baseball coach at Villa Park in 1992, leading the Spartans to a third-place finish in the Century League. He was the head softball coach at Canyon last season. The Comanches finished 13-13.

German replaces Joe Quezida.

Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza shot a three-over 76 to fall to second place in the girls’ division of the Rolex Tournament of Champions junior golf tournament Wednesday at the Horseshoe Bend Country Club in Roswell, Ga.

Booth, the first-round leader after a 72 Tuesday, shot a 33 on the front nine before finishing the round a stroke behind Kelli Kuehne of Dallas, who is one-over 147 for the 72-hole tournament.

Alicia Allison of Santa Ana shot an 82 to fall to 10th place, 11 strokes behind Kuehne.
