Children’s Program--The Oak Canyon Nature Center in Anaheim will sponsor a children’s nature program on Saturday morning titled “Chaparral in the Summer.” It will focus on rabbits, coyotes, lizards and other animals that live in this dry environment.

The program will begin at 10 a.m. It is free and open to children ages 6 to 10.

The center is at 6700 Walnut Canyon Road, Anaheim. To get there, take the Riverside Freeway to the Imperial Highway exit. Go south on Imperial to Nohl Ranch Road. Turn left and travel about three miles to Walnut Canyon Road and turn left again. Pass the Anaheim Hills Golf Course; the nature center is at the end of the road. Parking is on the left.

Newport Bay Bird Count--The Sea & Sage chapter of the National Audubon Society will conduct another in a series of bird counts on Saturday at the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve.

The monthly bird counts are scheduled to coincide with the low tides at the bay.

Those interested in participating in the count should contact the chapter office at (714) 261-7963.

Participants are asked to meet at 7 a.m. at the California Department of Fish and Game’s trailer on Shellmaker Island off Backbay Drive in Newport Beach. To get to the island, take the Corona del Mar Freeway to Jamboree Road, go south. Make a right on Backbay Drive. Shellmaker Island will be up about half a mile, on the left.
