TUSTIN : Council to Consider Fee Hike Proposal

Share

The City Council will consider a proposal to increase construction fees and inspection charges after a public hearing today.

The city staff has recommended increasing fees for a wide range of permits and inspection services conducted by the engineering division of the Department of Public Works.

They said the fees are needed to cover the increasing costs of those services.

If approved, the fee hikes will be the first since 1980, officials said.

In a report to the council, City Engineer and Public Works Director Robert S. Ledendecker said that the fees are based on the salary rates of city employees doing the services and how long it takes them to do the jobs.

The higher fees will affect mostly private contractors, who perform construction and engineering projects for the city. By law, the city has to inspect these projects before they are considered complete.

“The city incurs actual costs for these services,” Ledendecker said. “They should be borne by the individuals who benefit from such services.”
