VENTURA : Insurance Agent Admits Burglary

A 50-year-old insurance agent pleaded guilty Monday to a single charge of residential burglary, avoiding a jury trial scheduled to start this week, the Ventura County district attorney’s office said.

Terry J. Alderete of Ventura on Monday admitted one count of residential burglary related to a grand jury indictment last May.

The grand jury indicted Alderete on charges of grand theft and burglary because jurors felt there was enough evidence to prove Alderete entered the home of an elderly Ventura woman with the intent to defraud her, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Jeff G. Bennett.

Alderete met with the 64-year-old woman , who is partially disabled, and persuaded her to give him more than $71,000 to purchase an insurance annuity, police said. But Alderete instead used the money for personal expenses and never purchased the annuity, Bennett said.

Alderete , who faces up to six years in prison, is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 10.
