The Mighty Ducks will begin their first NHL season with a five-game home stand at the Anaheim Arena, according to the league’s official schedule released Tuesday.

The Detroit Red Wings will be the expansion team’s first regular-season opponent, Oct. 8, followed by the New York Islanders (Oct. 10), the Edmonton Oilers (Oct. 13), the Boston Bruins (Oct. 15) and the Calgary Flames (Oct. 17).

All 25 other NHL teams will make at least one appearance in Anaheim. The Kings will visit Dec. 26, Feb. 11 and March 16. The Stanley Cup-champion Montreal Canadiens (March 2) and the Pittsburgh Penguins (Nov. 7) each will visit the arena once.

The home schedule features 23 weekend dates--11 on Friday, one on Saturday and 11 on Sunday. The busiest weekday night is Wednesday with 13 games.

The Ducks, in the newly formed Pacific Division of the Western Conference, will play 30 games against Pacific Division opponents, 26 against the Central Division and 14 each against opponents from the Eastern Conference’s Northeast and Atlantic divisions.

“Competing in the new Pacific Division will provide a big challenge,” Ducks’ General Manager Jack Ferreira said. “Regional rivals like the Kings and San Jose Sharks will make the divisional race exciting and very competitive in our inaugural season.”

The longest home stand will be six games, ending with a designated home neutral-site game against Dallas at Phoenix on Nov. 9. The Ducks have one six-game road trip and three five-game trips.

The Ducks will play the Kings at the Forum on Dec. 2, Jan. 29 and March 30.

The Ducks’ exhibition schedule is not yet completed.
