Butler Wants Lasorda on Field, Not Remembered on His Sleeve

This has been a tragic year for the Dodgers. First, former Dodger pitcher Tim Crews was killed in a boat accident. Then Hall of Famers Roy Campanella and Don Drysdale died within a week of one another.

During the playing of the national anthem recently, Brett Butler turned to Manager Tom Lasorda and said, “Skip, you’d better take better care of yourself. The weather on this trip has been brutal, we’ve had some long games and I’m not sure you’re getting enough rest.”

Lasorda told Butler he was deeply touched at his concern.

Jim Van Vliet of the Sacramento Bee reports that Butler replied: “Yeah, I was thinking we don’t have any more room on our sleeves for any more patches.”
