Communications Workers Sign Pact: Thousand Oaks-based GTE California, a unit of GTE Corp., said it signed a 39-month labor contract with the Communications Workers of America. The agreement, which is effective immediately, calls for general wage increases of about 10% for most of the company’s 12,000 hourly employees. Those employees could also receive incentive-based compensation of up to 1.8% in 1995 and 3% in 1996. In addition, the agreement gives hourly employees the choice of using a managed health care plan or a health maintenance organization.
