Governor Appoints Corporations Commissioner

Gov. Pete Wilson Tuesday announced the appointment of Gary Mendoza as Commissioner of Corporations.

Mendoza, 37, who lives in Sierra Madre, has practiced corporate securities law for more than 10 years. He is currently a principal in the law firm of Riordan & McKinzie.

If he is confirmed by the Senate, the Claremont McKenna College and Yale Law School graduate will receive an annual salary of $95,052.

Mendoza, a Republican, practiced corporate law at Latham and Watkins in Los Angeles and Orange County from 1982 to 1988. He was employed as a CPA by the accounting firm of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte & Touche) from 1977 to 1979.

E. Kent Damon Jr. has been appointed senior vice president, Asia-Pacific, of Arco.

Damon, 50, is currently Arco’s senior vice president for planning and control. In his new assignment, which takes effect Aug. 2, Damon will be headquartered in Hong Kong.

Damon joined the Los Angeles-based oil company in 1972 after working as an investment analyst in New York. He was elected vice president and investment officer in 1985 and senior vice president in 1990.

Computerland Corp. President and Chief Operating Officer Edward Anderson has resigned, the company said. Anderson joined the computer dealer in 1987.

The company did not immediately name a successor.

William Tauscher, company chairman and chief executive, said Anderson left to pursue another executive position. Anderson unavailable for comment.
