West Covina : Council OKs Fee Increases

Over protests from residents who do not want to pay more to help balance the city budget, the City Council has approved two assessment fee hikes that will cost the average household about $10 a year.

The council voted 3-1, with Councilman Bradley McFadden opposed and Councilman Steve Herfert absent, to approve the higher fees during last week’s regular meeting. About 20 people in attendance voiced opposition.

The sewer maintenance assessment district fee was increased by about 20%, or $4.21 a year for the average household, bringing the annual fee to $21.95 for most families.

Also at last week’s meeting, the council increased the lighting and landscaping district fee, which is based on the accessible square footage of a lot. The average household, which has about 70 feet of accessible footage, will pay an additional $6, bringing the annual bill to about $106.
