LOS ANGELES : 112 Prospective Jurors Excused From Denny Case

Share

A judge Thursday excused 112 people from jury duty in the trial of two men accused in the riot beating of trucker Reginald O. Denny. One man was dismissed after saying he was “sick and tired of crime.”

Superior Court Judge John W. Ouderkirk questioned prospects to determine whether a three-month trial would prove a hardship.

“Does hardship include personal prejudice?” asked one man. “I’m sick and tired of crime. I watch the news every night and it would be difficult for me to be neutral.”

Selecting 12 jurors and six alternates may take three weeks in the trial for Damian Monroe Williams, 20, and Henry Keith Watson, 28.

The call for jurors has not been vigorously heeded. Only 153 of an expected pool of 250 people reported for duty Thursday.
