HUNTINGTON BEACH : Architects Are Hired to Develop Pier Plans

Share

The City Council has hired a local company to provide architectural and engineering plans for three new buildings on the municipal pier.

The council approved a $105,650 contract with Anthony & Langford/Architects to prepare plans, specifications and cost estimates for construction of a two-story Ruby’s restaurant, a snack shop and a bait and tackle shop. All will be at the end of the pier.

There hasn’t been a restaurant on the pier since 20-foot waves destroyed the former End Cafe in 1988.

Company officials said construction is expected to begin in early 1994 and be completed later that year.

The City Council also asked Anthony & Langford to submit an estimate for a study that would look into ways to reduce costs of a lifeguard tower and restrooms, also to be built on the pier.

The City Council rejected bids this month for the two buildings.
