Glendale police rounded up 24 suspected gang members from Glendale, Pasadena, Los Angeles and Sun Valley after the group allegedly threw rocks and bottles at an ice cream truck and another vehicle, officials said Friday.

No one was injured in the disturbance at 6:26 p.m. Thursday at Central Avenue and West Windsor Road, Officer Rod Brooks said, although a bottle smashed the front windshield of a 1982 Cadillac driven by Karapet Baltayan, 41, of Glendale.

Brooks said detectives were still trying to determine Friday exactly what prompted the incident.

According to witnesses, an ice cream truck, followed by the Cadillac, was traveling east on Windsor at Central. Rocks and bottles were then hurled at both vehicles by a group of youths standing at the corner.

Baltayan drove away from the scene and called police. Officers arrived at the intersection and arrested 16 youths between ages 13 and 17 and eight adults between 18 and 25 years old, Brooks said.

All but one was arrested for investigation of disturbing the peace and interfering with an investigation--misdemeanor charges. A 13-year-old boy admitted to throwing a bottle at the Cadillac and was arrested on suspicion of that felony charge, Brooks said.

The suspects were all cited and released.
