LA CANADA : Pipe Bomb Discovered in Residential Mailbox
A pipe bomb found Thursday by a mail carrier in a neighborhood near the La Canada Flintridge Golf Course was safely removed by a bomb squad. The postal worker discovered the device about 1:15 p.m. in a curbside residential mailbox on Ivafern Lane. The carrier took it to an open area at 5500 Godbey Drive and called authorities, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Benita Hinojos said.
Deputies cordoned off the immediate area as bomb squad members disposed of the section of plastic pipe loaded with explosives.
The residents of the home had not received any threats. detectives said.
