Decision on Charging Coleman Delayed as Investigation Continues

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said it won’t decide until next week whether to file criminal charges against New York Met outfielder Vince Coleman because an investigation by the Los Angeles City Fire Department has yet to be completed.

Coleman, held out of the starting lineup for a fourth consecutive game Friday at St. Louis, allegedly ignited an explosive device in the Dodger Stadium parking lot last Saturday, injuring three fans. Coleman entered Friday’s game in the eighth inning as a pinch-runner.

City arson investigators are continuing to explore new leads and collect information in the case, said John Little, arson investigator.

“We want to do a thorough job because serious charges are pending,” he said.

Investigators are expecting lab results detailing the nature of the explosive by Monday or Tuesday.
