STILL CARING: Though the 30-day mourning period has ended, visitors to the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace continue to leave small bouquets at former First Lady Pat Nixon’s grave site near the gardens. . . . “We never really know who does it, the flowers just seem to show up,” says spokesman Kevin Cartwright. The library has decided to continue indefinitely the Jimmy Stewart-narrated filmed tribute to Pat Nixon in the main corridor.

DOUBLE DUTY: At the state trial in the Rodney King beating, officer Theodore Briseno accused co-defendant Laurence Powell of being out of control that night. So how can one of Briseno’s attorneys, William J. Kopeny of Santa Ana, represent Powell on appeal of his federal conviction?. . . . Kopeny says double jeopardy should have prevented a federal case against any of the four officers. “I’m outraged by the political motivation behind this prosecution,” Kopeny says. Both Briseno and Powell waived any conflict, and Briseno has encouraged Kopeny to help Powell, who will be sentenced Wednesday.

HE DID IT HERE: Reggie Jackson, who will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame today, began and ended his career with the Athletics, and will be depicted in the Hall in a Yankees uniform. But Jackson, who still has a home here, spent 1982-86 years with the Angels, and should have fond memories of Anaheim Stadium. . . . It was at the Big A on Sept. 17, 1984, that Jackson hit his 500th career home run. It was also there --17 years earlier to the day--Jackson hit his first homer for the Kansas City Athletics.

NO LATE FEE: You won’t find it at Blockbuster, but if you’re a junkie of cable-TV’s civics channels, the city of Villa Park has a tape for you. Loyal resident Don Ebrite lamented he had to miss the TV coverage of a recent council meeting. So now a tape of each meeting will be available for free. “I hope people take advantage of it,” Ebrite says. . . . Adds Councilman Bob Patchin: “I always prefer people deal with facts rather than rumors about what we do or say.”
