Another Woman Writing of the West

Thank you so much for “Write ‘em, Cowgirl” (July 7).

I have been hooked on Western women writers since being hooked on Western men writers in 1987, starting with Norman MacLean’s “A River Runs Through It” and a horseback trip into Montana wilderness.

When I discovered the women writers, I was ecstatic.

May I add to your list Susan Lowell (“Ganado Red--A Novella and Stories”) for the finest in Arizona magical realism. And there are the men who express a balanced female side such as Jim Harrison, who in “Dalva” even writes as the female lead character.

Reading this kind of work is the next best thing to being there.
