AIRLINES
Delta Schedules Pilot Layoffs: The nation’s third-largest airline said it will furlough 69 pilots Sept. 1 and an unspecified number in October as part of a previously announced Delta Air Lines Inc. plan to cut costs by laying off 600 pilots. Delta furloughed 136 pilots on June 1 in the first round of layoffs. The airline will also discontinue an unprofitable route between Miami and Frankfurt, Germany, on Oct. 3 and reduce its fleet by 28 aircraft to eliminate marginal and unprofitable flights. Separately, Delta said it will meet with potential foreign buyers for five new Boeing 737 aircraft.
