Weekend Box Office : ‘Rising Sun’ Rises to the Top

Share

“Rising Sun,” with Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes, led the ranks of the nation’s Top 10 movie attractions during the week. In final figures released by Hollywood’s film companies on Monday, the Clint Eastwood movie “In the Line of Fire” was No. 2 and appeared on a track toward $100 million. Meanwhile, the leader a week ago, “Poetic Justice,” saw business drop by an ominous 57%.

* It’s rare that a new film from a major distributor doesn’t open in the Top 10. But TriStar Pictures’ No. 12 “So I Married an Axe Murderer” managed the feat. Another new film, the animated “Tom & Jerry: The Movie” from small distributor Miramax Films, drew a languid $1.2 million and was No. 15.
