Essence Completes Work on Oil Tanker Monitors

Share

Ventura-based Essence Engineering Inc. has completed construction of three radar stations that will monitor tankers carrying oil between Point Arguello and El Segundo.

Essence designed and built the sites at a cost of more than $500,000, according to the company’s president, Richard Kasa. The stations are in Gaviota, the Rincon area and El Segundo.

The system, designed to help Chevron USA tankers avoid hazards that might lead to spills, was given a successful dry run in July, Kasa reported.

He said he expects the tankers to start carrying oil later this month.

The stations were paid for by Chevron USA and Gaviota Terminal Co.
