CAMARILLO : Officials to Choose New School’s Name

Share

Camarillo school officials have yet to decide on the name for a new elementary school, but chances are the name will include either the Spanish word for “view” or that for “green.”

A committee of residents and Pleasant Valley Elementary School District staff has whittled down to eight a list of nearly 300 possible names submitted by residents.

Drawing from this final list, the district board will choose a name Thursday for the school planned on Woodcreek Road in the Mission Oaks neighborhood.

All eight names on the final list consist of two Spanish words, as do the names for all of Pleasant Valley’s 13 schools.

And fully five of the names include either the word “vista,” which means view, or “verde,” the Spanish word for green. One of the suggested names consists of both words: “Vista Verde.”

A staff report said the committee selected names that have a pleasing sound and that are easy for speakers of English to pronounce.

The eight names are: Arroyo Madera, Arroyo Vista, Cielo Vista, Cuesta Verde, Las Brisas, Sierra Vista, Tierra Linda and Vista Verde.
