AGOURA HILLS : 2 Incumbents May Not Seek New Terms

Share

Two of the three Agoura Hills City Council seats up for grabs in November may be left vacant by current members.

Darlene McBane, who has served two terms on the panel, said Friday that she is “leaning toward not running again.” Another two-term member, Mayor Ed Kurtz, has said he will forgo a third term.

“I would kind of like to find something that pays better,” McBane said with a laugh. “I’ve served for two terms, and I was active on the Planning Commission before that. I feel that I have accomplished a lot.”

McBane added that she is still undecided about whether to run, though. The filing period for candidates ends Friday, but would be extended for one week if any incumbent does not enter the race.

Meanwhile, Fran Pavley, who has been on the council since the city incorporated in 1982, has announced that she will run for reelection.

“This election will be very decisive in the direction the city goes in the next four years,” Pavley said. “That’s part of why I’m running again: to protect the hillside ordinance and other steps we’ve taken to preserve the nature of our community.”

So far, five other potential candidates have taken out nominating papers for the Nov. 2 election, although none have yet filed nominating petitions with the required 20 voter signatures, said City Clerk Pat Manning.
